2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC First Drive: Power Chord

When my feet flew off the passenger-side carpet under 1.5 g for the second time, I began to realize how much of Ford’s new-for-2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC I had not experienced during my own brief session behind the wheel. In the driver seat was Ford vehicle dynamics engineer and SCCA national champion Steve Thompson. The tires squealed intermittently as he adjusted the steering angle, dancing with the car as it hurtled through the rollercoaster that is Sonoma Raceway. That evening, I found my collarbones were red from being thrown against the five-point harness (in a seat clearly not designed for five-foot-six women). To be clear: I was having a lot of fun.

The newest model in a proliferating lineup of pony cars, the Dark Horse SC is the most track-focused Mustang that rolls off an assembly line. (The limited-production, $325,000 GTD does not roll off the assembly line at Flat Rock, Michigan, as a finished product, and is not available to the general public; you must apply to purchase one.)
