Shining Some Light on the New Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC
There is an intriguing new Ford Mustang model on the way — the Dark Horse SC. The SC presumably stands for supercharged, which the 5.2-liter V8 indeed is. But there’s a lot more to this car than a supercharger and a slightly bigger engine than the current Dark Horse has — which would be a 5.0-liter, naturally-aspirated V-8. There’s a sophisticated suspension and lots of fresh bodywork, much of it there to properly cheat the wind, and add a bunch of downforce.
Plus, and this never hurts, it looks hot in photos, even hotter in person.
So what position does this new model play on the Mustang team? Arie Groeneveld, the chief program engineer for the Dark Horse SC, explains, or at least tries to, given how many topics he’s not allowed to discuss during our first look at the car: “Say you have white space where you’re trying to place these vehicles, book-ended by the Mustang GTD on one side, and the base Dark Horse on the other. In between, there’s a lot of white space left. This car is designed to help fill that space.”
