2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC is the Shelby GT500's Successor

The Shelby name may be gone, but the high-performance Mustang still packs a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

  • Ford has revealed the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC, the successor to the previous Shelby GT500, which slots between the standard Dark Horse and the GTD.

  • The SC packs a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, but Ford has yet to reveal power figures and how, or if, the engine differs from the unit in the 815-hp GTD.

  • Ford also comprehensively upgraded the suspension and aerodynamics; deliveries start this summer.

While the Ford Mustang GTD has taken over the top spot in the pony car's lineup, there's still plenty of room between that 815-hp track beast and the 500-hp Dark Horse. In the past, this gap would be filled by a car bearing the name of automotive icon Carroll Shelby. But instead of a new Shelby GT500, Ford is now launching the Mustang Dark Horse SC, a high-performance coupe with a focus on track driving that aims to take the Dark Horse badge to new heights …
