That’s when Jack saw him, an eager trooper, sitting in his squad car. Waiting. Their eyes met. The trooper’s hand twitched over his holstered radar gun. When the light finally changed, Jack eased the monster’s V-8 into “slow cruise,” just so Smokey could take one last, long look. After all, why try to inspire “fear” or “respect” when “envy” is perfectly legal?
