Four Ways to Upgrade your Mustang’s Performance

Method #1: Performance Chip Installation

For the simplest and most inexpensive aftermarket upgrade project, try installing a Ford Mustang performance chip. Aftermarket ECU chips are designed to close existing performance gaps and enable swifter engine response. A properly installed Mustang performance chip can potentially increase the car’s engine horsepower output by up to 60hp, not to mention also boosting fuel economy by 4-7mpg as well. And that’s all for a chip that often costs $100 or less.

Method #2: Body Add-ons

Making your pony car more aerodynamic will help to cut back on the influence of wind resistance. The more you’re able to reduce air resistance, the less engine strain your car will have to compensate for, leaving more room to generate power for the purpose of increased speed. Typical aftermarket Mustang body add-ons include spoilers for the car’s front and rear, as well as items such as air dams.

Method #3: Hood Replacement

The stock hood on your sports car can actually be weighing it down far more than you realize. On some models, dozens upon dozens of needless extra pounds are weighing down the car, forcing the engine to compensate for weight that doesn’t have any purpose but body coverage. By replacing the stock hood with an aftermarket Mustang fiberglass hood, you can significantly cut into your vehicle’s total weight, making it lighter. If you don’t want to choose a fiberglass hood due to its less durable nature, you can always choose a stronger, yet still-light alternative like carbon fiber.

Method #4: Turbocharger Installation

There are few upgrades that can make an impact on a car’s horsepower output quite like installing a Mustang turbo kit. Turbochargers are capable of adding hundreds of additional horsepower to a vehicle’s output. Unfortunately, they can be quite pricey, making them unreasonable to purchase for many. If you can afford one, however, expect to floor the competition next time you take your Mustang out for a spin.
