2005 Ford Focus Will Have New Look, Features

The little Ford Focus is being updated for '05, with a new front end, headlamps, hood and fenders and functional changes that include a 24 percent increase in horsepower, to 136, for the base engine. A new version, the "Focus ST," will combine chassis components from Ford of Europe's Focus ST170 and a 150-hp., 2.3-liter engine.

The Focus was launched in North America as a 2000 model. Changes for '05 also include a new interior and improved steering and brakes, Ford says.

Four styles will be offered - three-door hatchback (ZX3), four-door sedan (ZX4) a five-door hatchback (ZX5) and a station wagon (ZXW). The '05 Focuses are expected in showrooms in the spring. Prices haven't been announced.

Ford to Drop SVT Focus

Ford, planning to take the SVT performance brand to a more premium position, will drop the SVT Focus after the 2004 model year, the company says.  Dropping the car is part of an overhaul of the SVT lineup.  No SVT models will be produced for about 18 months starting in the spring.  Ford still will sell a performance Focus, called the Focus ST, a four-door that will debut in the 2005 model year.
